Consultancy firm, Worley Parsons, is currently undertaking hydrodynamic modelling for the proposed dredging. This involves developing a 3D mathematical model which simulates the current wave and current climate and indicates how the proposed design may affect the wave action in the area. We are currently investigating any potential for:
To help calibrate the model, Napier Port has recorded waves at several locations and has another buoy which is recording currents.
Detailed modelling of the project design and construction is allowing us to test and refine the design to ensure any potential impacts are identified and are fully addressed.
Early indications are that any potential impacts can be managed effectively.
While the wave modelling for the proposed design is yet to be completed, the above image shows some typical results of current baseline wave climate.
